Dr. Ing. Lothar Wessolly passed away on 8th of February 2026. With his passing, we have lost an influential figure who played a significant role in the professional careers and technical development of many of our members. Together with other colleagues, Lothar Wessolly founded the Sachverständigenarbeitsgemeinschaft (SAG) Baumstatik e.V. (Expert Working Group on Tree Statics) in October 1996 and led the association as its first chairman for more than 12 years. His perspective as an engineer significantly changed the assessment of tree stability and made an invaluable contribution to the preservation of valuable old trees. We all benefit from the work that Lothar Wessolly and all his companions have done in many different ways for the benefit of trees. As SAG Baumstatik, we would like to express our gratitude and honour Lothar Wessolly’s work in the field of Tree Statics. Our sympathy goes out to his family, friends and all those who knew him personally or professionally.
